Writing in today’s Financial Times on the same day the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative Conference opens in London, George Soros explains how better disclosure of the funds major corporation pay corrupt, oppressive governments in exchange for the right to mine their natural resources is paramount to alleviating global poverty. EITI’s Publish What You Pay program sounds like a very worthwhile initiative for promoting great disclosure in this arena.
