Creative Entertainment Group Works Digital Optical Into L.A. Post-Production FacilityNew Computer-Based Digital Opticals Offer Filmmakers Greater Creative Control While Saving Time and Money
Los Angeles, Calif. (June 22, 1999) Creative Entertainment Group, the home of the independent filmmaker for complete post-production finishing, has joined forces with Digital Opticals, Inc., a start-up that uses the latest advances in computer technology to create film opticals and visual effects.
The strategic alliance will allow Creative Entertainment Group to offer its clients the ability to create high quality film opticals, digitally and with no generation loss.
Through the agreement, Digital Opticals will open shop at Creative Entertainment Group’s Los Angeles based post-production facility. “The beauty of digital technology is that it’s putting filmmakers back in control. Creative Entertainment Group can now offer independent filmmakers affordable film opticals. And we can do it faster, with greater flexibility and enhanced image quality,” said Dan Loewenthal, creative director at Creative Entertainment Group.
Digital Opticals, Inc. will offer standard dissolves, wipes and fades as well as visual effects and graphics capabilities. By choosing to go digital instead of optical, filmmakers can instantly reposition, tweak and playback film transitions before rendering. Previously, filmmakers were forced to expose, develop and print film before making changes. “The idea of digital opticals is a process whose time has come. We’ve launched Digital Opticals, Inc. to deliver the promise of digital technology to the realm of optical printing,” said Ziad Seirafi, the company’s president and well known visual effects producer whose credits include visual effects for “Double Team”, “Knock-Off”, “Tales of the Crypt” and “Star Trek Voyager.”
Optical printing is used to create dissolves, fades and wipes by aiming a motion picture camera at a projected image and rephotographing the image, or a combination of images, frame by frame. Advancements in film scanning, software, and output technology have allowed Digital Opticals to pioneer a new, cutting-edge solution that results in opticals that have no generation loss whatsoever. A sample reel or screening is available upon request to demonstrate these improvements in flexibility and image quality.
